DAVE Jamaican Kitchen Food Truck Review

If you are looking for a good Jamaican food restaurant, I found one on four wheels. DAVE Jamaican Kitchen normally operates in the area of 67th Ave and Lower Buckeye (Phoenix).

But since it is a food truck, you can catch them roaming all over the Greater Phoenix area by simply checking their website, social pages, or calling in.

DAVE Jamaican Kitchen serves pretty much everything you would look for in a quality Caribbean restaurant. In fact, their menu had a few additional items you typically do not see elsewhere.

In the past, whenever I ate Jamaican food, I typically got either the jerk chicken or curry goat. For this visit, I decided to change it up and try the most expensive item on the menu: oxtails!

The dish included a generous portion of veggies and Jamaican rice with peas. I also ordered a side of plantains.

The food was ready within 6 minutes. Awesome.

I started with the veggies. They were beyond excellent and full of flavor.

If you have kids that typically don’t enjoy vegetables… Trust me, they will like these.

The veggies mostly consisted of cabbage. But DAVE Jamaican Kitchen also throws in a medley of mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, green beans, etc.) to be different. I enjoyed this variation.

I then tried the rice and beans. Again, nothing but incredible flavor.

By the way, you can enhance any side dish by adding jerk flavoring to the rice/beans. The “jerk sauce” or “juice” is the marinade that get poured over and rubbed onto the meat.

During the cooking process, the drippings from the meat further enhance the jerk marinade, making it the perfect, sweet and savory flavor-enhancer for rice/peas and veggies.

Next, I tried the oxtails… Believe me when I say it, the meat was better and more tender than rib meat.

The dish was one of the best things I’ve eaten in a while. The cost was high.

But oxtail typically costs more per pound than premium steak. It was definitely worth the price.

Jamaican cooks never, ever take shortcuts on flavor or meat quality. They only serve the real deal.

I sampled the plantains at various times during the meal. Great as usual. They are basically sliced, fried bananas.

Definitely try the fried plantains if you haven’t yet.

I did not examine the paper menu from DAVE Jamaican Kitchen until I got home. But I noticed some interesting menu headings.

Under “Dessert,” it lists both beef and chicken patties. These are savory dishes.

They are made using a pastry shell and then stuffed with seasoned meat.

Many cultures have similar dishes where seasoned meats are fully encased in some sort of breading or pastry dough.

Then, under the “Vegan” subheading, three out of the four dishes actually contained meat. So, while the food experience was a 10/10, the print menu probably needed a few edits.

I am HIGHLY recommending the DAVE Jamaican Kitchen food truck. It is truly some of the best food you will ever eat (not just Jamaican).

First-timers should consider starting with either jerk chicken or curry chicken plates. Justin Leonard Approved!
