Two Hands Korean Corn Dogs Review (Mesa)

Have you ever tried Korean corn dogs? Well, these will probably blow away whatever they have at Wienerschnitzel. For this review, I am trying the Two Hands Corn Dogs location in Mesa.

I believe this was their first Arizona location. They now have multiple stores and are rapidly expanding.

The Mesa store sits in a shopping center anchored by H-Mart (grocery), and you will not have any issue finding a place to park.

Two Hands is takeout only. The have a minimalist menu, focusing mainly on seven Korean corn dogs and a few options for fries. One of them is available with kimchi seasoning. The other they call “Two Hands Dirty Fries,” which consists of tater tots, Two Hands Dirty Sauce, and Cheetos powder.

For my review, I decided to try the “Mega Set,” which includes a preselected assortment of five corn dogs: Two Hands Dog, Spicy Dog, Potato Dog, Classic Dog, and Crispy Dog.

When you place an order, you will be given the option to customize the corn dogs. On the “Classic” and “Crispy Dog,” you can choose regular sugar, light sugar, or no added sugar. For both, I chose light sugar.

When the corn dogs come out of the fryer, they literally roll it in sugar to enhance the taste. This is quite unique.

The other modification you can make is choosing between all beef hot dogs (also available in “spicy”), all cheese dogs, or half meat and half cheese. If you get all cheese, you’ll be eating a super fancy mozzarella cheese stick.

I believe I tried the Potato dog first because it looked cool. It is a Korean corn dog wrapped in “potato cubes” aka mini French fries.

You can see in the photos, it has the Two Hands Dirty Sauce and Cheeto dust artistically applied.

My first impression: really good. I then tested the Two Hands Dog, which has Two Hands Signature Seasoning with Sweet Ranch Sauce. It was good.

The consistency of the corn dogs is probably the best part. They roll the dough in bread crumbs, which give it a noticeable crunch, immediately followed by a soft and chewy dough texture.

Unlike American-style corn dogs, I do not believe the Korean corn dogs have a single drop of corn in the dough. The Korean version is more akin to pancake batter or even pizza dough.

The Crispy Dog was another work of art. Its unique appearance comes from puffed rice, which to me tasted like a cross between Rice Krispies and popcorn.

The “puffs” were not as light and airy as Rice Krispies. They were a bit more dense/harder, but really good and different.

After a while, the others (Spicy Dog and Classic Dog) kinda tasted the same with only modest differences in the sauces.

I should point out that the fancy stuff (sauce, seasoning, etc.) you see on the corn dogs only appear on the front-facing portion.

For drinks, they had Pepsi products and slushes. I was hoping to try the “custard” boba drink they had featured on their corporate website. But this location does not offer boba drinks.

My overall assessment? Definitely Justin Leonard Approved. The concept is a welcomed change from the ordinary, and I like things that are different.

Out of the five corn dogs I tried, it was difficult to pick a clear winner. They were all good. The quality and texture were top notch.

I did not mind the unusual flavor pairings. In fact, most of the sauces we consume are sweet (ketchup, thousand island, honey mustard, etc), and are almost exclusively paired with savory items. Chicken and waffles?

If you decide to check out Two Hands Corn Dogs, consider spending the money to try a few of them and see which ones you like.

I would put Korean corn dogs in the novelty food category. Meaning, once or twice a year, it is fun to enjoy. But I typically do not crave novelty items all that often. That said, I will definitely be back. Peace
